There is a technical bulletin out on the horizontal stabilizer on the Cruzer.
Mine is still removable so the fix is fairly simple. After several frustrating attempts to get the parts from Zenith I just bought what I needed to do the fixes myself from Aircraft Spruce. (Arg).
Took off the tail…
Next is a hinge extension.
And then finally I need to make a skin doubler for the front. I bought a 4×4 sheet and will make it out of this. I needed and excuse to have a little scrap left over for some cover plates anyway.
I forgot some holes in a very tight spot. Had to take a stubby drill bit and cut it to the shortest length I could manage and still make it turn in my right angle attachment on my drill.
I love it when hacks work out!
Wasn’t feeling motivated today, but I came out anyway. Actually spent more time cleaning the hangar than anything, but some progress was made anyway.
Doing a pitot tube cover type mount from mykitairplane.com. Got some good advice from the internet on cutting the hole.
I’m super happy with the result. Next up, the backing plate and running the tubing.
Going MUCH faster than the other side. I need to remember to make room for the pitot tube and fuel plumming 🙂
These took a while to make and I still need to cut and drill the tops, but they came out well.
Next up is the dreaded root wing skin.
Lots of skin work going on right now.
Worked on the wing root ribs, they don’t fit well on the inside.
The the rear channel and the three doublers.
